September 2018 taking up a new program in Vushtrri - because we found reliable partners there. DVM Zenel Zhabari and his colleague DVM Labinot Osmani treat and sterilise owned dogs for free - with the approval of the Mayor. So quite a few dog owners visit for the first time a veterinarian for pets.
A teaching program in schools was lead repeatedly, except during COVID restrictions.
THIS IS A PREVENTION PROGRAM TO STOP DISPOSAL OF PUPPIES IN THE STREETS - OR KILLING THEM!
Since end of 2019 we invested in a pet clinic with Sanctuary in Nevolan/Vushtrri. Before DVM Zenel Zhabari had a tiny 3 room clinic in the center of the town. The treatment of hundreds of stray dogs was nearly impossible. As he owns land we helped him with this start up. A pet clinic that can be measured with European standards, like the Pro Vet Clinic in Gjakova. We offer for poor people free treatments, we castrate and vaccinate street dogs - and we have the support of the Municipality. Investments in start ups are important - they show the citizens the value of a pet and might prevent dumping of old and sick dogs. With the CNVR program we castrate every year around 600 dogs in this region to prevent reproduction. Still we find poor abandoned puppies all the time! Adoptions could help us to deal better with this situation. The Sanctuary here is quite crowded.
