How to avoid dog bites?

Educational program in Albanian

New educational program to avoid dog bites for Albanian-speaking parents and their children

Aufklärungs-Programm zur Vermeidung von Hundebissen

With the kind permission of the Zurich Veterinary Office, we were able to translate the appropriate texts into Albanian. El Zonko from Hal Media made the drawings for us. Everything was translated by Dea Hysa.

These booklets are available in Kosovo from our vet at Pro Vet Clinic Gjakova.

Unfortunately, dog bites are a risk in the Balkans, especially for children. Many incidents can be avoided by handling dogs correctly — provided that you are informed about them at an early stage and in a child-friendly manner. This is where our new educational program to avoid dog bites comes in, which is aimed specifically at Albanian-speaking parents and their children.

With the kind permission of the Zurich Veterinary Office, we were able to take the content from a proven Swiss prevention project and translate it into Albanian. The lyrics were written with great care by Dea Hysa linguistically adapted so that they are not only correct but also culturally coherent.

The lovely illustrations are by El Zonko (Hal Media), who charmingly depicts everyday situations between children and dogs — such as how to approach a strange dog, when you prefer to keep your distance or how to correctly interpret dogs' body language.

These small educational books are now available at Pro Vet Clinic Gjakova — free of charge for interested parents, kindergartens, schools or animal lovers. With this program, our goal is to promote understanding and safety when handling dogs and thus improve the coexistence between humans and animals.

The program is part of our larger commitment in the region to increase both animal welfare and public awareness. Especially in Kosovo, where children encounter street dogs every day, this simple measure can make an important contribution — to preventing accidents and ensuring respectful cooperation.

We appreciate the great feedback on the introduction and hope to be able to offer the booklet to other communities soon.
