Establishment of Sanctuary and Small Animal Clinic
SANCTUARY AND SMALL ANIMAL CLINIC IN MITROVICA UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN 2025
We can't help because, without proper infrastructure, hundreds of dogs cannot be treated. The previously used factory in the center of Mitrovica was flooded. Our renovations were destroyed, and the neighbors are complaining about dog barking. Without a solution, the Veterinary Office will close this establishment.
That is why we built a new sanctuary on the hill near Mitrovica. We have already been able to fence off. Since December 2024, the first communal stables have been ready. Fundraising continues to cover the costs. Our long-time partner vet would also like to set up his new clinic there. But right now, we don't have the resources.

MITROVICA TRANSIT CENTER
The old factory we rented for our work in Mitrovica is insufficiently furnished. The concrete floor absorbed all odors, an unacceptable situation for humans and animals. In November 2022, we had to line the floors and walls with expensive epoxy. Shortly after, the clinic was flooded, and our work was in vain.

This veterinary clinic is far from meeting the demands of mass castrations and continuous work. Since there is a lack of financial resources, a replacement building on the hill at the sanctuary we built is only slowly getting started. Animal welfare for dogs requires better infrastructure to help sick and injured dogs. Diseases should not spread in clinics; they must be extremely hygienic - which is not the case in the old factory. It is located in a flood area and is humid and cold. We have to carry out repairs again and again. Animal rights also require adequate accommodation during treatment, especially as street dogs are often malnourished and wormed. Dogs' chances of adoption increase if they are kept healthy and clean. The new owners rarely want to be burdened with high costs. Unfortunately, dog animal welfare has its limits here. It is our turn to set up the new small animal clinic - hopefully with the help of generous donors. The costs for a new clinic amount to around 100,000 euros.

Under the direction of Commander Robert Kuczarsky, surgical equipment and other materials were brought to DVM Labinot Osmani's transit center in December 2020!
Since 2020, DVM Labinot Osmani, who specializes in small animal medicine, has been our partner vet in Mitrovica. He helped out his colleague Zhabari in Vushtrri the year before and also looks after our sanctuary if he prevents him.
In Mitrovica, dogs were neutered continuously for a year and also fed in the streets by L. Osmani, which was urgently needed during the Covid period during many lockdowns. Our vet is very committed and also grateful to be able to work with us.
