North Mitrovica

On August 12, we were able to sign a contract with the mayor in North Mitrovica to treat 500 stray dogs within a year. The costs of treating each dog are shared. In addition, the association “Šapa” iz Severne/Kosovske Mitrovice has agreed to take over school lessons. Our partner vet Osmani cannot speak Serbian, which is why we had to hire new “teachers” there. The city has already informed citizens via Facebook (THE Kosovo newspaper) and urged everyone to refrain from suspensions in the future, under threat of punishment. The city is also calling on dog owners to have their animals chipped and castrated immediately. If there is no income available, the dogs will be treated and neutered free of charge as part of our joint program.

BEFORE: In 2021, our partner vet was able to contractually agree with the Albanian-speaking city of South Mitrovica until April 2022, where he should receive 15 euros each from the city at our price per dog of 45 euros. Despite the contract, he didn't see a cent until February 2022 - that's why the contract with Mitrovica was not renewed. On the other hand, Skenderaj showed interest and DVM Labinot Osmani has been working continuously in this neighboring community since 2022.

As early as 2023, the association Udruženje za zaštitu životinja “Šapa” iz Severne/Kosovske Mitrovice was provisionally assured of the treatment of 100 stray dogs. For years, the association has been taking care of street dogs on the Serbian-speaking side of Mitrovica in an exemplary manner.
