Castration program in Kosovo's villages

In addition to farm dogs, there are hundreds of street dogs in the fields, garbage heaps and roads in the villages around Kosovo's cities. We use notices to inform the village population about the possibility of free treatment and castration. Should it not just be a “drop in a bucket,” we urgently need financial resources.

Farmers simply have no money to castrate their dogs, which primarily herd sheep and goats. We motivate them to let us treat their dogs. The mayor of Peja has asked us to also consider the villages. It has obviously become common practice to abandon puppies in the city, because not every farmer has the heart to kill puppies every half years. We have also met many farmers who love their dog and want to free them from the exhausting births. The farm dogs are neither tethered to the farm, nor are they led on a leash, they stray. We cannot change these habits without a corresponding legislative change in Kosovo. But we can castrate with your help.

This work began at the beginning of March 2016 and will continue as long as penniless dog owners, such as shepherds and farmers, bring their dogs over.
