Dogs puppies in the Balkans

Puppy misery

In the beam, puppies often suffer from fatal diseases

Puppies suffer from parvovirus

Puppies in the Balkans often suffer from serious illnesses and are constantly wormed. The parvovirus is causing us the most trouble, which kills half if not 2/3 of our puppies. Our vet is currently trying a new strategy to delay DHPPL vaccination until the puppies are well fed and otherwise healthy. The puppies are treated with the simplest means if they are ill.

However, it is important to know that we do not have an actual puppy station and cannot accept all the hundreds of abandoned puppies. We have succeeded in recruiting volunteers in the Gjakova region to water and feed the puppies - as well as street dogs. We deliver food to some helpers! Others give up their leftovers from the table.

Puppies are particularly vulnerable in our region as they often suffer from serious illnesses, and most of them are also wormed. Especially the parvovirus presents us with major challenges time and again. This virus kills half, if not two thirds of our puppies every year. The animals that survive the virus are often weakened and have to wait for months for proper care and strengthening in order to regain health.

Our vet has developed a new strategy to better protect puppies. It delays the DHPPL vaccination(which protects against parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza and distemper) until the puppies are sufficiently nourished and stable enough to tolerate the vaccination well. This allows puppies to increase their chance of a full recovery without their health being compromised by vaccinating them too early. Yet challenges remain as parvovirus is widespread in our region.

The sick puppies are treated with the simplest means available to us. But despite all efforts and the commitment of our team, it is important to know that we Not an actual puppy station operate. Therefore, we cannot all of the Hundreds of abandoned puppies who come to the region regularly. Our capacity is limited and the animal plight remains an ongoing problem.

However, we did it in the region Gjakova a group of volunteers recruit who is willing to water and feed the puppies — as well as Stray dogswho need food regularly. Some volunteers help us with food, while others pass on their leftovers from the table. This initiative helps us to ensure the puppies' survival, even when the conditions are anything but optimal.

It remains a daily battle, but every puppy rescued is a small victory. We hope that we can achieve long-term improvements through continued efforts and cooperation with other organizations.
