Opening of the Mitro-Vet Small Animal Clinic

After eleven years of dedicated work for street dogs in the Southwest Balkans, we are proud to now be able to open the fourth small animal clinic in rural Kosovo.

Primarily, for years, we consistently and continuously collected street dogs in four regions, vaccinated, neutered, dewormed them, and released them back to their original locations. Initially, this work was done in containers at landfills, until we were able to open the first large rural small animal clinic in Gjakova in 2018. Since then, our partner small animal clinics have been established in Gjakova, Vushtrri-Nevolan, Drenas, and now also in Mitrovica. This infrastructure did not exist anywhere in Kosovo before 2018 – nor in neighboring countries. We also established sanctuaries everywhere, where our disabled or sick dogs can live thanks to sponsorships.

Since 2015, we have promoted the CNVR model in Kosovo, establishing four small animal clinics for the first time outside the capital. This is what remains of our work – sustainable. Our partner veterinarians are trained by us in neutering techniques. This was also a first and unique achievement in Kosovo, where hardly any veterinarian cared for pets before our operations began in 2015. Sick, injured dogs and unwanted puppies were, and still are, abandoned to this day! However, in our operational regions, we will continue our work until the end of 2026 – after which we hope other international NGOs will take over. Our services are available in four regions and offer pet owners an alternative to abandonment: treat your dog!
