Veterinary training in Kosovo

Veterinary training 2017

12 veterinarians learn about dog castration

Our 3rd vet training in Kosovo

From July 29 to August 2, 2017, our third veterinary training in Kosovo took place in Prizren. The theoretical and practical training was carried out at the veterinary clinic by Dr. Fidan Krasniqi, with financial support from our foundation. The organization was taken over by the Veterinary Association of Kosovo, and the technical direction was DVM Nusa Schumet from the organization “Slovenian Vets for Stray Pets”, which has been committed to sustainable animal welfare projects in the Balkans for years.

Training of 12 major veterinarians

Twelve large veterinarians took part in small animal castration training — all were originally trained in the field of large animal medicine. The training included both theoretical principles and practical exercises with a focus on the so-called small-cut technique, which is particularly gentle and effective.

The final report shows encouraging progress: Eight of the participants are already able to reliably carry out the small-cut technique for castration. Even though some still need some practice in the small-cut technique, it became very clear that the willingness to continue their education and actively participate in animal welfare is very high. This is a significant step towards comprehensive, responsible control of stray dog populations.

Through this targeted training, we not only strengthen local veterinary capacities, but also contribute to building sustainable structures in Kosovo's animal welfare. The training was a complete success — we would like to thank the participating vets for their commitment, and are happy for the local animals and for a common future with less animal suffering.
