Milestone in the Southwest Balkans

Against killing healthy dogs

TV interview with Dr. Helen Wormser

A wake-up call against the planned killing of stray dogs in Kosovo

Kosovo is currently at a worrying turning point in dealing with its stray dogs: Instead of sustainable animal welfare measures, plans are now being made to kill abandoned dogs in state animal shelters. This drastic change of course, which is reminiscent of the tragic development in Romania, threatens not only to cost the lives of thousands of healthy, cheerful animals, but also to nullify all the progress that has been made hard in the area of animal welfare in recent years.

Our foundation has vehemently resisted this decision from the outset. But despite intensive efforts — countless letters, conversations and appeals — we fall on deaf ears at official agencies. The invitation to a TV interview with Jeta Xharra, the most famous investigative journalist in the Southwest Balkans. Her show is considered one of the most influential platforms for social grievances — and it was right there that our founder was able to Dr. Helen Wormser Talk openly at last.

In this interview, which you can watch below, Helen Wormser explains the consequences of the planned measures and clarifies why the CNVR method (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) is not only ethically but also practically the only sensible way to deal with street dogs. It shows how systematically a solution could be worked on — and why the planned mass killing is unacceptable both from an animal welfare and social perspective.

This interview was an important step in attracting attention — among the public, among international observers and, hopefully, soon also among decision makers.

We continue to fight — for enlightenment, for respect and for life!
