Nagavc Veterinary Clinic moves to Gjakova Sanctuary

Takeover of the veterinary clinic in Nagavc by StrayCoco

Before the Foundation began working in Kosovo, a veterinary clinic was built in Nagavc by American Ben Mares. It sheltered some sick or disabled dogs and cats that still live with us today. Otherwise, it was empty. It was registered by our vet DVM Blendi Bejdoni as “N.SH. Pro Vet” in Nagavc Village/Rahovec. However, hardly anyone pays for their dog's veterinary treatment. It was only in connection with our CNVR campaign that the clinic was reopened and became a place where street dogs could be cared for longer and cured of their illnesses and injuries - or where street dogs from the region temporarily stay for castration.

The dogs (and cats) remained in the hospital, which cannot survive on the streets or need lifelong treatment. In autumn 2018, they were moved to the Gjakova Sanctuary. The rented Nagavc veterinary clinic and its owners became unpredictable for us - and we didn't want to be on the street one day with around 40 disabled dogs today.

Operating the Sanctuary costs us on average per month Euro 1200. The sponsors help us to cover some of these costs. You too can donate to our dogs: DONATE

Sanctuary with a newly built veterinary clinic in Gjakova

The sanctuary is part of the newly built veterinary clinic in Gjakova. The dogs were driven from the old town in Nagavc to Gjakova and enjoy the long runs there. The dog pool and pipes and some plants as well as the sun roofs in the sanctuary were fully financed by the “Bernhard's Animals First & Only” foundation!

For the winter, we were able to install infrared heating in the two stables, which house smaller dogs. When the roofs flew away in a storm, we were able to get new ones and finally we installed more solid sun roofs in 2020 - at night, because during the day it's around 40 degrees in summer!

Manual rearing of abandoned newborn babies

Simply left in a cardboard box on the road towards Gjakova - who is not familiar with this situation? But the little ones had still closed their eyes and noticed almost nothing... they just wanted to drink. Our team from Pro Vet Gjakova took their time to raise the eight small creatures. Someone had to feed her every 6 hours for weeks. But they did it. We are very proud to have these partner vets in Kosovo since the beginning of 2015!
