StrayCoCo = Straydog Control through Cooperation
Successful project in Malishevo
After visiting the city of Malishevo in March 2017, we have decided to offer a CNVR program to this location as well. The streets were full of sick dogs, people passed by carelessly, and a commitment seemed urgently needed for us. Murat Hoxha, vet and director of the agricultural department in this town, had already asked us for help a year ago. We couldn't because there was a lack of financial resources to make deployments everywhere.
But in April 2017, we were able to sign a contract with the city. The city committed itself to an information campaign and gives us access to their schools, in return we treated and castrated the dogs of the municipality - a neighboring municipality of Rahovec.
The contract lasted until the end of May 2018. Since June 1, 2018, the state has commissioned two local veterinarians to carry out castration work, as the state paid CNVR for 13 months. What will happen next is an open question. There is competition between veterinarians that is accepted by the Veterinary Office - i.e. veterinarians should only be allowed to treat dogs in their region - our team is no longer allowed to work everywhere - and the animals perish in many places. Too many vets simply kill the dogs.
