This year we held the first animal care seminar in Kosovo
In August 2023, two-day seminars were held in Vushtrria and Gjakova for our animal care employees. The aim of this training was to provide basic knowledge in the area of professional animal care and to further improve the quality of care in our facilities.
In Kosovo, the profession of zookeeper does not exist — in contrast to Switzerland, where training to become an animal keeper takes three years and provides a sound theoretical and practical basis. Our employees therefore learn their tasks in practice, usually through experience, commitment and love for animals. It is therefore all the more important to give them the opportunity to develop professionally through targeted training.
The seminars lasted two days each and included topics such as hygiene and infection protection, species-appropriate husbandry, feeding, behavioral monitoring and the safe handling of various animal species. The content was supplemented by practical exercises and the exchange of experiences between participants.
Even though two days cannot replace a full-fledged education, it was shown how much can be achieved in a short period of time. Our employees were highly motivated and there was great interest in professional exchange. The seminars gave new impetus and increased awareness of professional animal care — an important step on the way to even better standards.
We would like to thank all participants for their commitment and look forward to continuing and developing this continuing education format in the future. Because every investment in knowledge is also an investment in animal welfare.
