Veterinarians castrate street dogs

Veterinary training 2015

For sustainable success

Our first vet training

There are hardly any small veterinarians in Kosovo and when they do, they can be found in Pristina.

If our work is to have lasting success, then local veterinarians should be involved, even if they specialize in farm animals. That is why continuing education of these doctors is important to us!

This was a difficult matter when the mayor of Peja, Gazmend Muhaxheri, asked us to involve local large veterinarians in our castration work. DVM Blendi Bejdoni as project manager seemed to have no nerve for this. The president of the foundation was covered with horror stories every day, according to which this and that did not go as well as our perfectionist vet wanted.

Chance would have it that the Dutch Veterinarian Dr. med. vet. Birgit Brants - with some experience in international dog castration programs - visited her friends in Kosovo and immediately made herself available as a teacher (wearing a colorful headscarf). She instructed the three large veterinarians at the Veterinary Station in Peja DVM Henrik Nulleshi, DVM Ernest Nulleshi and DVM Adrian MullaHow carefully dogs should be treated and castrated. Today, our project manager is grateful that he is supported by these three vets.

We agree with the mayor: If our work is sustainable, then local veterinarians should be involved, even if they specialize in farm animals. There are hardly any small veterinarians in Kosovo and when they do, they can be found in Pristina. That is why continuing education of these doctors is important to us!
