Castration project Cazin Bosnia

New project in Cazin Bosnia

Collaboration with @Hopefordogsbih

Just in time for August 1st, in collaboration with @Hopefordogsbih, we started capturing dogs in Cazin and having them castrated. The local activist Neira brings owner dogs and street dogs to the vet in Bihac. DVM Armin Alagic, @veterinarska .stanica.dogtor, is the vet who is working with us from now on.

We're where no one else is. Cazin is a well-known small town in Bosnia on the border with Croatia. Dogs have never been treated and castrated in this region. We've started now. The plan is to treat 200 dogs by the end of the year. If the pilot project and collaboration is successful, we will continue it in 2026 - with your help!

We're where no one else is. Cazin is a well-known small town in Bosnia on the border with Croatia. Dogs have never been treated and castrated in this region. We've started now. The initiative came from the Bernese association Hope for Dogs, which only started its activities in spring 2025. The Swiss-Bosnian Edita could no longer watch the dogs suffer. So she began privately to ensure the animal welfare of dogs wherever possible in the Bihac region. The focus is on adoptive dog placement with the help of German associations. Those dogs that cannot survive on the Strasser are operated on, treated by veterinarians and then prepared for a place to live. The majority of the dogs we castrated return to their territory, with Neira's NGO providing stray animals with feeding and outpatient care.

The dogs stay in their transit home in Cazin to recover after the operation before they are released again.

The mayor of the city has been informed about our animal welfare efforts and agrees as long as we do not open animal shelters. Like us, he is a determined opponent of animal shelters whose maintenance in a poor country is barely possible in the long term. Adoptions of dogs hardly take place. That's why CNVR - catch-neuter-vaccinate-release is the only working local method.

In addition, just as in Kosovo, we offer dog owners with no or too little income castration - thus putting an end to the killing and suspension of puppies!
