Finally settled by contract with the City of Niksic Montenegro!
After long and intensive negotiations, there has finally been a significant breakthrough: Mayor Grbovic and our partners, the Family Vet Team, have signed a contract for CNVR program (Catch—Neuter—Vaccinate—Return) signed for stray dogs. This is a big step in the right direction for animal welfare in Montenegro — and a real sign that sustainable, humane solutions are possible.
We are grateful for the support of Minister Mr. Simovic, Director of Veterinary Administration Ms. Dakovic, and the constant contact with Deputy Mayor Mr. Perovic.
The program has already started! The dedicated Family Vet team will now decide which regions in the Niksic municipality will receive priority treatment. In particular, the areas with the highest number of stray dogs are taken into account. Castrations and medical treatments are going according to plan, and initial feedback from the population is consistently positive.
It is also particularly gratifying that the municipality of Niksic has announced that it will step up action against the abandonment of dogs. Measures are being prepared to hold people who illegally abandon dogs or smuggle them in from other regions to account.
Accompanying the project, a study is being carried out which investigates the long-term effect of CNVR compared to conventional animal shelter accommodation. This data will provide important insights for future animal welfare work.
In the cover photo, you can see our happy team: Marijana (with dark hair), Aleksandra Krivokapic — the head of the clinic — and Srdjan, our employee in the transit center.
We're proud of this milestone — and look forward to everything that's to come!
