Veterinary training in Kosovo
This year, we became aware that the Veterinary Society of Kosovo does not represent the interests of pets, which is why we initiated the start-up of a small veterinary association. Kosovo Small Animal Veterinary Association (KSAVA) is now a counterweight to large veterinarians in the country. Our partner vet DVM Blendi Bejdoni is on the board of this association, and large veterinarians who can treat pets professionally may also join.
The KSAVA was the first to hold a meeting in autumn 2019 with Professor Dr. Vlatko Ilieski organized by the University in Skopje on the ethical handling of animals, which was also well attended by large veterinarians. We then offered one-day practical training in dog castration at the Gjakova Veterinary Clinic, which was attended by 12 large veterinarians from the Oda Veterinarisë e Kosovës (Veterinary Society). It is the only training center for small animals in the whole of Kosovo - which will hopefully improve dogs' lives.
DVM Blendi Bejdoni has also trained several veterinarians in Kosovo individually on dogs for several days, and our new partner DVM Nebojsa Gorasevic from Niksic/Montenegro, who had not performed an ovariectomy so far, was also trained - because the small incision ovariectomy is central to us for street dogs.
Last but not least, KSAVA board member DVM Jusuf Kovaci, taught his two colleagues from the board, DVM Dardan Pozhegu from Pristina and our partner DVM Blendi Bejdoni about hip surgery. DVM Kovaci was trained in Turkey, was an assistant vet and is the only semi-skilled surgeon in Kosovo. He doesn't know everything, but he can still help with many fractures. In the meantime - 2022 - he has been technically overtaken by DVM Blendi Bejdoni and Pro Vet Team Gjakova :-)
