Time for the summer report

Dear dog lovers,

We have once again achieved a great deal in recent months. Mention should be made by name of First ever Society for Small Veterinarians in Kosovo (www.ksava.net), whose statutes we have prepared according to the Swiss model.

For the first time, the three board members have successfully performed bone surgery (osteosynthesis), in the case of a stray dog with multiple pelvic fractures.

In Albania/Shkodër Out of 500 street dogs, we had 400 of them castrated and treated at our expense. We need donations for the last 100 animals.

Finally, we would like to mention for the first time that we are on adoptions are instructed if the sanctuary is not to be overcrowded. All healthy dogs go out onto the streets again, but those that are seriously injured or ill for a longer period of time must stay with us until they are healed. That's what we're looking for families — there and here.

KSAVA

Small veterinary associations can represent the interests of pets. In countries without such societies, pets do not exist in law or in political programs. By founding and recently registering this association in Kosovo, with our active support, the few committed small veterinarians can exert influence on the veterinary office and demand that pets receive attention in the veterinary sector. Our common goal is to INTRODUCE DOG OWNER RESPONSIBILITY - according to the Swiss model, of course: register dog owners, chip dogs, punish abandonment!

Emergency help

For the experts among you: the x-ray of this dog's multiple fractures and displaced hips on the right. Recently, at 4:00 in the morning, the telephone rang at our vet DVM Blendi Bejdoni. A taxi driver witnessed how this dog was hit by a car in Gjakova. He took her to our clinic, where she was first given painkillers. Now good advice was expensive - not a single vet in Kosovo is a veterinary surgeon - the next surgeon is in Belgrade. DVM Jusuf Kovaçi then said that he had assisted several times during hip operations in Turkey. He sought advice from his Turkish professor, found plates and screws that he had taken from there, and the three of them stabilized the pelvic bone well advised by this professor. The dog is doing well today - she lives with us in the sanctuary without pain.

BUT WE NEED PLATES AND SCREWS for the next patients - none of this is available in Kosovo! Get in touch if you know where to buy or can deliver rejected goods.

SHKODRA/ALBANIA

‍The dog catcher from our local partners - he attracts the dogs in a fine way, without a stick or sling, and carries them to his transport vehicle. We have already been able to help castrate over 400 dogs, 100 dogs still need treatment. Dogs are abandoned every day - there is no sustainable program in sight in view of the political turmoil in Albania.

ADOPTIONS - also abroad

We have no choice. We were able to place a total of seven dogs at acceptable places in Kosovo over the course of a year. Thanks to KFOR, Swisscoy and tourists, a few other dogs found their family in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol, the UK and Switzerland. If we want to accept new injured or sick - but cheerful - dogs in the sanctuary, then we have to find families who are willing to adopt a not-so-perfect dog. The Swiss association HELP THE ANIMAL and the South Tyrolean DOG FRIENDS support us.The dogs are in the sanctuary because they were) disposed of as puppies and cannot survive on the street; b) because they were ill - e.g. had distemper or mange - and were cared for too long in the sanctuary to bring them back to their regular place; c) because they are no longer unharmed after an accident.
