Kosovo stray dogs

Dear animal lovers

For this year, we have set out to intensify prevention campaigns and work. This includes school visits and education in rural areas in our regions of operation. that Veterinary Office of Kosovo With the support of the EU, has launched a very nice campaign and published posters on Facebook calling on citizens to castrate their dogs and stop abandoning them. Unfortunately, none of these posters are posted all over the country - so how is the campaign supposed to work? Overall, there have been significant setbacks in animal welfare for dogs in the country this year and we alone can't do anything about it, especially because state NGOs support animal shelters instead of a CNVR program! With the construction of animal shelters and the abolition of the nationwide castration of street dogs, there are hidden killings of dogs everywhere, because dogs “disappear” in Vushtrri, for example, and as is reported, in other cities as well. A recently sighted truck with a dozen dog oaks in the Vushtrri region testifies to the killings, with the city describing this as a collection of dead dogs on the side of the road. But as reported in the last newsletter, 800 dogs have been euthanized in the city since the beginning of 2025 - 800 friendly animals! We have sent an unsuccessful petition to President Vjosa Osmani! At the Pristina animal shelter, dogs are beaten and disappear. This was also reported with video testimonies from trustworthy sources. We want to spare you all those pictures that are posted on Facebook and Instagram. In our work, we proactively approach dog owners, offer free neutering in the contracted communities and visit schools so that dogs are no longer abandoned. And we can proudly say that our stray dog program is still accepted in the regions where we work. That is why we are continuing in five regions. In North Mitrovica, Leposavic and Drenas, we have contracts with municipalities that enable our castration work. In Gjakova, the municipality is fully financing the castrations and we are carrying out emergency operations in the Graçanica region. These communities still deserve your support.

NORTH-MITROVICA Mitro-Vet Clinic

In North-Mitrovica, in the Serbian-speaking North-East of Kosovo, thanks to a contract, we have the opportunity to castrate 500 street dogs with the financial contribution of the city, and in view of the many puppies there, we now have a outpatient care program built up. The puppies, which are fed by local residents, receive veterinary care until they are old enough to be castrated. The dogs get food from the local NGO “SAPA udruzenje za zastitu zivotinja”. The residents put out cardboard boxes so the puppies find a place to sleep.DRENAS - City Pet Clinic

SOS animal welfare - animal rescue in our Drenas region of operation! This little male is now also with us in the sanctuary and is urgently looking for a godfather. Let's call him TOBBY. A sponsorship costs 40 euros per month.

Donate: We are really urgently looking for a little more donations for the new small animal clinic on the hill of Mitrovica. We have built a sanctuary there and would now like to add the small animal clinic next door. Anyone who knows how low the wages are in Kosovo, even for veterinarians, understands that they themselves will not be able to make such an investment in 10 or 20 years. We are helping by co-financing at least half of the small animal clinic — as another start-up in Kosovo. And it is also the only solution that promises sustainability in the treatment of pets. Even without us, small animal medicine should ultimately have its place in Kosovo. Experience shows that supply creates demand. Dog and cat owners come to the clinic as soon as the offer is available. But the repeatedly flooded factory in the city center, where DVM Labinot Osmani previously worked in a tiny room, has been unsuitable for years and was an emergency solution for us. We are now building the last small animal clinic in Kosovo and need your support.

This small animal clinic is to be built next to the sanctuary in Mitrovica/Kosovo.
