Dear dog lovers!
A well-known Swiss animal lover asked me not to publish any “terrible” pictures this year. We barely do that either. Anyone who sees the posts on Facebook is often appalled at the suffering of animals, especially dogs, in the Balkans. And every terrible story, documented with the same pictures, is rewarded with donations.
Our somewhat “intellectual” program, on the other hand, is finding fewer donors. People want to be touched; many obviously can't do anything with bills, information campaigns and neutering street dogs.
Nevertheless - we remain true to our principle of sustainable change, which requires some fundamental changes in the country of Kosovo but also in Montenegro. And as an exception, we'll show you LARI so you can see that we certainly provide emergency assistance!
Yours Helen Wormser
(President of the Board of Trustees)
The Kosovo Animal Rights Foundation, an initiative of the StrayCoCo Foundation, edited the register for dog owners, financed by us with 4000 euros, then we had 25,000 dog passports printed for the country. The posters developed by the Animal Rights Foundation must also be paid for, as must printing. After that, we hope for free billboards in the individual municipalities. The mayors were all contacted.
Topics: No chain keeping, no suspensions, adopting, vaccinating and registering.
The coloured poster lists the benefits of castration with the title: Why should you castrate your dog.
We are delighted that the young vet son Erind Bejdoni plays with our dogs every day. He hasn't even been bitten or injured in any other way in all these years. He and our dogs get along. Many of these dogs in three sanctuaries (Vushtrri, Mitrovica and Gjakova) are young - we hope that they will eventually be adopted. Sanctuaries are generally intended for sick dogs or dogs that need prolonged treatment. But we currently have over 50 dogs to look after again, many of them abandoned as puppies, which would not have been able to survive without us. This applies in particular to Vushtrri and Mitrovica, where our castration programs are more recent. But as long as dog owners let their animals stray or abandon them, puppy births cannot be prevented.
Perhaps it is an exaggeration to talk about a sanctuary in Mitrovica - we are still looking for an area there. But there are 10 dogs in packs in the clinic, including LARI, who had to be treated for months. Allow us to take a before and after photo. You can see the result in these pictures. There are a lot of dogs with scabies in Mitrovica - LARI was rescued. Now he is looking for a place to live!
There are several Serbian communities outside Pristina and tons of dogs are abandoned in the fields around their villages. It is proven that some puppies are abandoned by the inhabitants of this region - which is why we also offer the castration of privately kept dogs in this poor region. Veterinary assistant Armend Merovci (our partner in Vushtrri) distributed flyers this week and pointed out the possibility of castration and rabies vaccination free of charge.
City dwellers and dogs suffer. All exposed, not one castrated. The current mayor Shpend Ahmeti has failed - elections are in three weeks, we hope for a capable new mayor! Meanwhile, we offer castration, deworming and rabies vaccination for at least 100 dogs - with your help. Costs for 100 dogs are 4500 euros. Veterinarian Shefki Ajdini has agreed to do this work for us. He is a skilled vet.
PLEASE DON'T FORGET THE DOGS IN KOSOVO AND MONTENEGRO WHO LIVE MISERABLE LIVES - AND DONATE TO BASIC CAMPAIGNS AS WELL.
THANK YOU!
