IT IS TIME TO WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR AND TO THANK EVERYONE VERY MUCH FOR THEIR SUPPORT SO FAR. IT IS ONLY THANKS TO YOU THAT WE CAN CHANGE THE LIVES OF DOGS IN KOSOVO AND THUS MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR HUMANS AND ANIMALS - WE WOULD LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT!
This resulted immediately, on October 13, 2017, in the order of the new Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, according to which all street dogs in the country should be captured and treated to stop reproduction - a HIGHLIGHT in the Balkans - it just needs to be implemented - and that takes time! We'll keep you up to date.
Dr. Helen Wormser
(President of the Board of Trustees)
How are the dogs doing outside and in our sanctuary today? These street dogs in the center of Gjakova are not only treated by us, but are also healthy and well-fed. This speaks for the castration program in western cities - animal shelters in this country would be cruel. Nevertheless, some health-impaired or disabled street dogs are accepted at Nagavc Sanctuary - and recently the dog crates and our stable have been equipped with lots of hay so that the animals can warm themselves in winter.
In Gjakova there is a new mayor, Ardian Gjini! We are looking forward to making good contact with him, because without political and administrative support, we will never be able to develop sustainable programs.
Animal welfare is not possible without politics and we regularly improve our contacts with political authorities and administrative authorities.
Congratulations on your election!
But right in the city next to Gjakova, in Decane, it looks like it. In the meantime, we can only be reached there for emergency help; our donations are not enough to consistently castrate. For 100 dogs we need 4500 euros - This includes vaccinations, deworming, surgical work, treatment of wounds and manges, dog trappers, dog food, gas, materials, etc. - We urgently need regular donations, because nothing works without them in Kosovo or in Albania - the people there also need their income and it goes without saying that they are paid for their work. (In the picture you can see LAIKA. She is now in the sanctuary. Of their six puppies, three died from parvovirus. We sincerely hope that the remaining dogs will be adopted at some point!)
She goes regularly Work in schools Furthermore, here were our veterinarians in nine primary classes in the city of Malishevo - a total of 300 students received our flyers about street dogs and booklets about pet care. Everyone had a lively discussion with our veterinarians and was able to share their experiences as well as fears. These pictures are from November 2017.
Nine large veterinarians from the Prizren and Rahovec region and two veterinary students from Pristina have taken part in our Continuing education program in small-cut technology involved in castration. We were able to recruit vet Nusa Schumet from the animal welfare organization “Slovenian Vets for Stray Pets” as a teacher. The vets practiced under supervision and instruction for five days and six of the nine vets received a certificate of competence from our teacher.
Short visit to Preoce (Serbian exclave Graçanica) in November. We came across this puppy. DVM Blendi Bejdoni takes the opportunity to deworm the puppy while I feed. The hardest part is “moving on.” After all, this puppy was abandoned directly at the Roma village, where there is enough waste. It is still too early to castrate.
At the end of October 2018, after the school holidays, we are planning a group trip to Kosovo and welcome all interested parties who would like to join us. We have just carried out a sponsorship trip and would like you to join the country of Kosovo in a five-day round trip Make known - in the most beautiful landscape in the Balkans. There will be a few surprises to report in the new year, but we don't want to reveal anything yet. In these first three years, we have achieved a lot and yet have not been able to prevent much suffering. We are not sharing these terrible experiences with you, because as a donor, you know what is at stake and how much you can achieve with your support, at least in certain regions.
If you are interested in the trip, please let us know: info@straycoco.com
