NEWS FOR THE YEAR 2024

We were once again able to conclude contracts with three municipalities for the treatment and castration of street dogs. They are Drenas, Skenderaj and Vushtrri. All three municipalities contribute to the costs and promised to approve prevention programs. Thanks to the continuous trust of these communities, who are convinced of our program, we can help sustainably. Gjakova, in turn, has decided to pay the entire costs. The castration program, carried out by our project manager, will last until the middle of this year. We will be challenged after that.

PREVENTION IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US

After an intensive year in 2023 with visits to almost all primary schools in the villages and cities in our regions of operation by our veterinarians and street work by volunteers from the “Kosovo Association for the Protection of Animals”, we launched a new children's book at the beginning of the year, based on the model and with the consent of the Zurich Veterinary Office. The drawings for the children can be colored and were made by Matias Peitzolenka from Halle a.d.S. Dea M. Hysa did the translations. It is distributed in veterinary practices in Kosovo and in municipal administrations. Here is a video about the pleasing result:

Kosovo Sanctuary

Although we consistently pursue the “Community Dog Concept” with the consent of the communities, i.e. after treatment for at least three days, the dog is released where it was captured and can survive, this is not possible in a few cases if a dog requires prolonged care and treatment.

That is why we run four sanctuaries with a total of around 80 permanent guests, who are under this LINK can be seen. These dogs would of course like to find a place to live - which is why we depend on visitors to Kosovo. The Mitrovica Sanctuary is located in the middle of the city and the barking of dogs occasionally disturbs the neighbors. Now we have started building a new sanctuary away from any settlement - and are urgently looking for donors. So far, we have 4000 CHF to thank a foundation, which can be used for dog houses.

The fences on the property have already been built - help us with accommodation and a small building for the animals.
