10 years working for street dogs - your help makes the difference!

Dear animal lovers,

For a decade, our foundation has worked tirelessly for street dogs, primarily in Kosovo (and at times other Western Balkans). Thanks to your support, we were able to do a lot of good:

  • Establishment of small animal clinics in rural areas with dog fugies, the fourth small animal clinic in Mitrovica is currently under construction
  • Founding of the Kosovo Small Animal Veterinary Association - the first association for small veterinarians • and introduction of further training for small veterinarians for the first time!
  • Educating children about responsible animal husbandry
  • Well over 16,000 stray dog neutering and vaccinations in several regions
  • Influence through educational campaigns - currently our petition against killing dogs in Vushtrri PLEASE SIGN LINK

Your donation saves lives!

Despite our successes, there is still much to do. Stray dogs still need our help:

  1. Castration programs are being expanded: Castration/vaccination/deworming a dog costs 50 euros - Objective: prevent offspring!
  2. Intensify educational work: 120 euros enable us to attend school with several classes all day to educate about animal welfare.
  3. Improving infrastructure: Every contribution helps build urgently needed veterinary clinics and repairs in refuges.
  4. Printing prevention brochures, educational campaigns5. We volunteers do everything else free of charge!Currently urgently needed:• 15,000€ for the treatment of 300 dogs in Leposavic• 47,000€ for the foundations of a new small animal clinic in South MitrovicaYour donation makes the difference! Help us alleviate the suffering of street dogs and create a better future for animals in Kosovo.

SETBACKS AND PROGRESS IN KOSOVO

  1. These three pictures show at a glance what is happening right now: In four major regions of Kosovo, we have had the very good experience that impoverished dog owners bring their dogs to our partner vets for free vaccination and castration. Many are currently from the Serbian-speaking regions of the country! We are thus preventing puppy abandonments!
  2. We are taking a step backwards in Vushtrri, where we castrated dogs for three years. As part of a new tender, which was awarded to a large veterinarian, the mayor now wants to kill 800 dogs - with 3000 castrations. We are observing on site and protesting against the relapse to the Middle Ages Change.org
  3. After the start of our castration program in the Serbian-speaking region of North Mitrovica, the municipality of Leposavic, located further north, also wanted our help. The contract has just been signed. Treatment of 300 dogs, with costs of 15,000 euros to be borne by us, the other half by the municipality.

THE NEXT GENERATION IS IMPORTANT!

Our veterinarians must practice prevention, which this year means visiting schools and educating children about dog husbandry (Susy Utzinger Büchlein) and the consequences of the suspension as well as avoiding dog bites (our booklet “Udhëzime për Fëmijë” presented by the Zurich Veterinary Office) .In addition, dog owners in villages and markets are informed, farms are visited, and made every effort to ensure that privately kept dogs are treated and castrated. For 2025, prevention is paramount!

Construction of a small animal clinic in South Mitrovica

In addition to dog treatments, the expansion of the infrastructure for pets in rural areas is our most valuable and, above all, most sustainable contribution to the development of small animal medicine for pets in Kosovo. In South Mitrovica, DVM Labinot Osmani's veterinary clinic is located in an old and unfortunately odorous old factory building. This is despite the fact that he covers a large region with his service for us, namely Skenderaj, North-Mitrovica and now Leposavic. Hundreds of dogs have to be admitted here every year for treatment for three to five days. Recently, the situation was unacceptable. That is why, in addition to the new sanctuary on the hill, we are also helping to build a small animal clinic. Despite our help, the vet has to take out an expensive mortgage, which is why anyone who wants to donate to the infrastructure is welcome (please note accordingly on the donation - we use every contribution earmarked for a specific purpose). The excavation and foundations alone cost 47,000 euros. The cost estimate for the building is still pending. However, we broke ground on March 22, 2025.
